Madras Engineering Industries, founded in 1966 by Mr E.K.Parthasarathy, began production of Manual Slack Adjuster components in 1982. In 1999 the first Automatic Slack Adjusters were produced. From foundation the focus has been on becoming a world class supplier to the Original Equipment & Replacement markets. Our patented self-adjusting automatic slack adjuster is now supplied to many of the world’s leading OEM and the Parthasarath family still own and run the business today.
Research
MEI research centre at Maraimalai Nagar site is a world class R&D facility. A full suite of test rigs and environmental chambers is complemented by our Link Dynamometer and Fatigue Rigs. We can complete the full SAE J1462 test procedure in house and are constantly benchmarking our products to SAE and ECE R-13 standards and beyond.
Foundry
Pillaipakkam employs Disamatic moulding lines and robotic handling to produce 700 MPa strength SG Iron with over 5% elongation. Our foundry ensures supply of the 400 tonnes of cast housings we require each month.
Production
Vertical integration is key to our philosophy. As well as our own cast housings, we produce all critical components in house at our Ambattur site. Special purpose horizontal machining centres ensure that housing machining is controlled in-house at our assembly facilities at Maraimalai Nagar and Mahindra City.
Assembly
Our seven station no fault forward assembly lines allow full flexibility and can accommodate single piece build of over 600 different part numbers. As well as use of Poka-Yoke systems our staff are trained in Six Sigma for continuous improvement. All parts go through end of line test routines to ensure 100% reliability.
Distribution
We supply to OEMs and aftermarket stockists in more than 60 countries worldwide. Main stockholding is in our United Kingdom warehouse and our experienced technical sales and logistics team can ensure prompt delivery around the globe.
After Sales
With extensive industry experience our sales team offers field assistance, installation advice, training and after-sales support. Our aim is to offer an unrivalled service to Fleets in support of our Distributors.
